This apple pie is delicious served with vanilla ice cream, or a
generous portion of custard.
Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 3/4 cups plain flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp Gregg's Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 cup Shreddo Quality Shortening
- pinch of salt
- cold water
Filling
Method
Combine the flour, baking powder, Gregg's Cinnamon and
SHREDDO Quality Shortening in a bowl or food processor.
Add enough cold water to make a soft dough.
Roll dough into a ball, wrap in cling wrap and chill for 30
minutes.
Preheat oven to 200°C and grease a 20 - 23cm pie dish.
Roll out two thirds of the pastry and use to line the base of
the pie dish. Mix filling ingredients together and place in pie
crust.
Roll out remaining one third pastry. Brush pie edges with milk
and place pastry top on. Press edges firmly to seal and trim any
excess pastry. Pierce the top with knife to allow steam to escape.
Brush top of pie with milk.
Bake in oven for 35 - 40 minutes or until pastry is golden
brown.
