Chocolate Christmas Pudding

This rich Chocolate Christmas Pudding is the perfect ending to any Christmas meal. While still bursting with traditional Christmas pudding flavour, the addition of chocolate will make it a favourite for the whole family.

How to Cook

  1. Place the butter, sugar, salt and spices into a large bowl. Beat until the mixture is light and creamy. Add the melted chocolate and beat until the mixture is smooth. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Fold in the flour, mixed fruit and baking soda previously dissolved in the boiling water. Lastly, add the brandy and orange juice.
  2. Grease a 2 litre pudding basin and pour in the mixture, making sure there is 2cm spare at the top to allow the mixture to rise in the basin. Fit a sheet of baking paper and secure the lid onto the basin. Alternatively, using string, tie aluminium foil securely around the top.
  3. Place the basin in a large saucepan and pour boiling water into the saucepan around the basin to reach halfway up the sides of the pudding. Place a lid on the saucepan and bring to the boil, then simmer over low heat for 3 hours, adding water when necessary to keep the water level constant. Remove the pudding from the saucepan and serve with chocolate sauce, custard or brandy cream.


  • 150 g butter
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar
  • pinch Cerebos salt
  • ½ tsp Gregg's Whole Nutmeg, freshly ground
  • 2 tsp Gregg's Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Gregg's Ground Allspice
  • 150 g cooking chocolate, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 3 cups mixed fruit (300g)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp boiling water
  • ¼ cup brandy
  • ¼ cup orange juice
