Coriander is native to southern Europe and the Middle East. The herb is an important spice crop and is grown commercially for its seed, roots and foliage in India, the Middle East, Romania, Morocco, Mexico, Argentina, the USA, the Caribbean and South-East Asia.Ground coriander has a mild, nutty flavour, with a mild orange peel, lemon or citrus aroma. The spice marries well with citrus (as in marinades) and olive oil.Used predominantly in savoury dishes coriander is often used in spice blends, in sausages and meat dishes, pickles, chutneys and in the spice dip dukkah.
